Charents arc: Ayas tour

Garni is a temple complex in Armenia, close to Yerevan. It dates back to the 3rd century BC and is relatively very well preserved. It was used as a pagan temple and the area as a residence of Armenian kings. It is very interesting to see how it was built – made of stones only, without the use of mortar.  Definitely there is a lot to be seen in the complex, especially if you are interested in the history of the place and the Armenian people.  Northeast of Garni, higher up the gorge of Azat river, there is an outstanding monument of medieval Armenian architecture – Geghard monastery (4-12th cc.) listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name Geghard comes from Geghardavank, which means the Spear of God, because the spear, that pierced Jesus was a sacred relic kept there.  Yerevan  – Echmiatsin – Zvartnots – Yerevan

Daily cultural and historical tours to Armenia

Yerevan: Ayas tour

Vagharshapat commonly known as Echmiatsin, is the fourth-largest city in Armenia, one of the historic capitals of Armenia and the spiritual center of the Armenians, as it is the seat of the Catholicos of All Armenians, the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Beautifully lounging against the background of biblical Ararat, Zvartnots Temple , is yet another mystery of the Armenian history. Dating back to the 7-8th centuries AD, the temple was exceptional for the time in terms of its height and grandeur. It’s still open to question what caused the destruction of the temple- whether a natural disaster or an architectural error. The last version can be more credible as all the later cathedrals built on the basis of Zvartnots didn’t stand the test of time, either. In any case, even in its present state, standing proudly in ruins, the Zvartnots Cathedral is enthralling and is a must-see during your trip to Armenia.

Echmiatsin Cathedral and Churches of Echmiadzin and the Archaeological Site of Zvartnots are listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
