“Geghama Trekking” 5 days

Tour Description:

This tracking tour is managed for persons, who wants to make hiking 15 km distance per day.  Starting from tour second day, we will start reach Geghama mountains, 3 nights overnight will be in tents, on Geghama mountains, on height 3000 m. up to sea level. Ajdahak is the highest mountain of Geghamas. On tour second day we will reach Ajdahak’s peak, and on the third day will visit Vishapalick (the lake of dragons). Near Vishapalich you may see the big Dragon stone,  was built for lake water’s protection. Short, but saturated tour will let you be aware from civilization, completely relax and recharge.

Enjoy the beauty of mountains in Armenia and breath fresh mountainous air. Overnights: 2 nights in Yerevan, 2 nights in tents.

Detailed Itinerary:

DAY 1:    Arrival

Arrive at the airport. Meet and greet, transfer to the accommodation.

Overnight: Yerevan

Transfer: 15 km / 10 miles

DAY 2:    Yerevan – Sevaberd village – Lake Akna

Transfer to Geghama Mountains. Possibility to see rock-carvings as it is the largest known hiking in armenia akna lake and geghama mountainsand best-preserved petroglyph area in Armenia. Drive to Sevaberd and start trekking to Akna Lake which is one of the many places of interest in the Geghamamountains. Akna means “eye” in Armenian. This lake is of volcanic origin and is located on the frontier of Kotayk and Gegharkunik regions. On the way we will see Ezidi people who represent the biggest national minority in Armenia. Their main activity is animal husbandry. Set up the tents. Camping.

Trekking: 12 km / 7.4 miles

DAY 3:    Lake Akna – Mount Azhdahak – Lake Vanki

Today we start our trekking from Akna Lake to the highest point of the range – volcano Azhdahak mountain, Geghama mountains. hiking in armenia, trekking in armeniaAjdahak located in the western part of the range. It is an extinct volcano. There is a lake inside the crater. The lake is formed from melting snow. Start ascending to the top. From the summit of Ajdahak opens pictorial landscape of Mount Ararat, Kotayk valley, Lake Sevan and the whole Geghama mountain range. Descending from the mountain and continue trekking towards Ezidi people and get acquainted with the lifestyle and customs of the national minority. Set up the tents.

Trekking: 19 km  / 11 miles

Elevation: Ajdahak 3597 m

 

DAY 4: Vanki Lake – Geghard  village – Geghard monastery – Garni Tample – Yerevan

Start trekking towards Vanki Lake. Nearby the lake some vishapakars (dragon stones) have preserved, in ancient Armenian mythology these stones symbolized adoration for water. Many various pertoglyphs can be noticed all around; the most ancient of them are dated for 7th millennium B. C. Continue trekking to Goght village. Drive back to Yerevan.

DAY 5:    Departure

Transfer to the airport. Have a safe flight home.
