DAY 1:    Arrival

Depart from your country and start a nice journey to Caucasus Region. Arrive at the airport. Meet and greet, transfer to the accommodation.

DAY 2:  Yerevan – S.Parajanov Museum – Echmiadzin – Zvartnots – History Museum of Armenia


Start a tour with visiting Sergei Parajanov Museum which is a tribute to one of the greatest figures of 20th-century world cinema. Depart for the spiritual and administrative headquarters of the worldwide Armenian Church. Visit St Hripsime church (7th c.). Hripsime was a Christian nun who refused to marry the roman emperor and fled to Armenia. Visit the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin (302-303 AD) the oldest state-built church in the world and the seat of the Catholicos. On the way back to Yerevan, stop for Zvartnots temple (means “celestial angels”) 7th century wonderful architectural masterpiece. The remnants of Zvartnots, even in ruins, are a majestic sight. Cathedral and Churches of Echmiadzin and the Archaeological Site of Zvartnots are listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Continue the excursion and visit History museum of Armenia represents an integral picture of the history and culture of Armenia from prehistoric times (one million years ago) till our days. The rest of the day is free.

DAY 3:  Yerevan – Matenadaran- Lake Sevan-Lake Parz-Haghartsin monastery-Yerevan

Start a day with a visit to the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts –Matenadaran the state repository that holds one of the world’s richest depositories of medieval manuscripts and books. Drive to the Gegharkunik region. Lake Sevan is the largest lake in Armenia and the Caucasus region. It is also one of the largest fresh-water high-altitude lakes in the world. This huge mountain lake is situated at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level. Visit Sevanavank 9thc. (Sevan monastery) located in the peninsula which used to be an island before. Note that the stairway leading to monastery consists of 220 stairs. Passing Sevan-Dilijan tunnel we appear in the fabulous forested resort town of Dilijan. Continue and visit a small beautiful lake called Lake Parz (clear lake) which is located in the Dilijan National Park at the altitude of 1400m above sea level.Visit Haghartsin monastery (10-14th cc.) is nestled in a temperate rainforest on a mountainside. It is one of those spots in Armenia that feels like you are walking through a huge, unreal movie set. Back to the Yerevan.

DAY 4: Yerevan –  Amberd fortress –Lake Kari- Hovhanavank – Saghmosavank –Levon’s underground cave- Yerevan

Visit  Depart for one of the impregnable fortresses of medieval Armenia – Amberd is a fortress complex (7-13th cc.) with the walls, Vahramashen church (1026), the bathroom and other sections built on the rocky eminence on the slopes of Mt. Aragats at 2,300 meters above sea level.  Drive to Lake Kari (Stone Lake) located in the slopes of Mount Aragats mostly formed by ice and snow. Aragats has sub-alpine and alpine zones as well as 4 peaks and one of the biggest craters in the world, created by a volcano eruption in the distant past.  Continue and visit the monastery complexes of Hovhannavank (4-13th cc.) and Saghmosavank (13th c.) are five kilometers apart and perch on the edge of the precipitous gorge of the Kasakh river.The most ancient structure in Hovhannavank is a basilica typical of the fifth century. Drive to Arinj village and visit the underground cave/museum dug by Levon. It’s interesting to realize that it’s a handmade labyrinth of a cave, with stairs, rooms, chambers, open shafts and sculpting was supposed to be a simple potato cellar. Drive back to Yerevan. Return to Yerevan and enjoy the evening.

DAY 5:  Departure

Transfer to the airport. Have a safe flight home.
